Job details
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is currently recruiting for a Director of Curatorial Services.
This is professional work involving the administration and leadership of the collections, conservation, and
exhibits sections.

This position will oversee the operations of the Museum Division collections and exhibits offices. The
collection consists of over 22,000 historical artifacts and the archaeological collection that is in the process of
being moved to a new facility where it will be cataloged for the first time. The conservator on staff works with
all of the above artifacts. The exhibits office maintains, develops, and fabricates exhibits for the Museum
Division sites.

Responsibilities of the incumbent include, but are not limited to:
• High level decision making related to collections and exhibits
• Management of personnel (both paid and volunteer)
• Development of policies, rules, and regulations as necessary
• Project management
• Participation in the division management group and project teams
Skills and Specifications
• The incumbent must have working knowledge of the overall process of managing a collection
• The incumbent should have the knowledge of the development of an exhibit from initial thought through
installation (both in-house and out-sourced)
• Incumbent must have excellent leadership, supervisory, organizational, and managerial skills
• Incumbent must have strong interpersonal skills
Education and experience must meet one of the following criteria:
• A Master's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and eight years of
collections or exhibits experience, four years of which must have included line or functional
administrative or advanced technical supervision.
• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and nine years of
collections or exhibits experience, four years of which must have included line or functional
administrative or advanced technical supervision.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History Museum Division manages the following sites in Jackson: the Two
Mississippi Museums—the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum; the Eudora Welty
House and Garden; the Old Capitol Museum; and the historic section of the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion. The
Museum Division also operates Winterville Mounds, Greenville; and Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, Natchez.
