Heritage-led regeneration is integral to the wider growth program for Gainsborough. It is acknowledged that a vibrant and attractive town centre will contribute to encouraging a diverse range of households, including wealth creators, to move to the town. In order for the town centre to thrive, the historic environment – Gainsborough’s Unique Selling Point – must be valued and actively supported by the Council.
Illustrating the Council’s commitment to this agenda, the Council has secured stage 1 approval for a potential £1.8m Townscape Heritage (TH) scheme for Gainsborough. A range of complementary initiatives are being delivered alongside this – Shopfront Improvement Scheme, Market Street Renewal Ltd (MSRL).Following the early success of heritage-led interventions in Gainsborough (Heritage Masterplan, Shop-Fronts, MSRL, TH stage 1 bid, commitment from Historic England), a dedicated Conservation Officer resource is now needed to ensure the continued, successful delivery of the restoration program in Gainsborough, and also in our smaller Market Towns.
