How You Will Contribute

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is offering a two-year Andrew W. Mellon Postgraduate Fellowship in Costume and Textile Conservation, beginning September 1, 2019 and ending August 31, 2021. Working with the two staff costume and textile conservators in the state-of-the art laboratory, the Fellow will be involved in conservation of European and American costume, textiles and needlework as well as the museum’s extensive collections of South Asian and East Asian textiles, contemporary fiber, craft, traditional tapestry, and carpets. The position includes benefits and a travel and research stipend.

Specifically, you will…

  • Examine, conduct research, and perform treatments on costumes and textiles in the Museum collections
  • Take part in ongoing preservation activities to contribute to the preventive care of collections on view and in storage.
  • Participate as a member of the Conservation Division in a range of institutional initiatives and functions, as well as in professional and public engagement.

Your diverse background includes…

  • A degree or certification from a recognized conservation training program (or equivalent experience)
