In October 2018, the Smithsonian’s Preparedness and Response in Collections Emergency (PRICE) team worked alongside The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to create a mock collections storage fire. The team wanted to see how storage supplies withstood fire, smoke, soot and suppression, as well as practice recovery methods following such an event.
