Perhaps these feelings can be marshaled into a push for more funding for conservation

According to an article by Raphael Minder in the September 9, 2018 issue of The New York Times ("In Repaint Job, Virgin Mary Gets Turquoise Hair"), another artwork in a Spanish church has been given a restoration by an untrained (in conservation) churchgoer. Such unfortunate restorations seem to happen with some frequency in Spain. If  Spaniards feel such an attachment to the works of art in their local churches that they can't bear to to see them neglected, perhaps conservators in Spain can marshal these feelings into a push for more funding for conservation.
