Ninth Meeting of the Users' Group for Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography (MaSC)

Registration for the Ninth Meeting of the Users' Group for Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography (MaSC) is open. The two-day meeting at the National Gallery of Canada will include presentations on the following topics:

  • GCMS assessment of solvent cleaning effects on Asian lacquers
  • Analysis of European lacquers using Py-GCMS
  • GCMS identification of historical dye sources in Chilkat robes
  • A GCMS study of fish oils in 20th century house paints
  • Investigation of fluidising oil paints on paintings by Nikolaus Moser
  • MS analysis  of Royal Talens' oil and tempera paints
  • Study of cellulose nitrate objects by EGA-MS and TD/Py-GCMS
  • Identifying 2000-year-old protein remains on ceramics using MS techniques
  • GCMS characterisation of black coatings on ancient Egyptian coffins
  • Palaeoproteomic analysis of paint binders and adhesives used in ancient Egypt
  • Selected ion flow tube-mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) in heritage science
  • Qualitative and quantitative interpretation of GCMS data using the ESCAPE system
  • A comparison of derivatisation techniques for GCMS analysis of oils, waxes and resins
Registration for the GCMS workshop, to be held prior to the meeting, 3-5 June at the Canadian Conservation Institute and Parks Canada, is now closed.
