Ask a Conservator Day Interview with Megan Salazar-Walsh and Sam Skelton

This past Friday, Ask a Conservator Day, our Executive Director, Lissa Rosenthal-Yoffe, had the opportunity to meet with Megan Salazar-Walsh, Exhibitions Conservator, and Sam Skelton, Painting Conservator at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Lissa writes, "I enjoyed touring the lab and learning more about NCMA's future plans for building a new conservation lab and related spaces to foster greater visitor awareness and understanding of the work of conservators. Thanks, Megan and Sam, I look forward to more visits to NC and seeing you in Florida for the AIC Annual Meeting!"

What’s the question you’re asked most?

"How do you clean the paintings?" A common question that both Megan and Sam are often asked, opens the opportunity to explain more about the work of conservators— from creating and customizing your own tools, to research on best treatments, and the endlessly fascinating detective work in learning more about the object's past and historical significance.
