The St. Louis Preservation Branch of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Preservation Programs is seeking to appoint a Supervisory Conservator working with National Archives facilities around the country and the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis to ensure that permanent records, including paper documents, microfilm, and photographs, are appropriately treated, stored, accessible or otherwise preserved. They are responsible for treating records burned in the 1973 fire at a NARA St.Louis facility. The Supervisory Conservator will serve as a conservation expert and will be responsible for planning, overseeing and providing recurring and ad hoc conservation services for St. Louis and other regional facilities, including analyzing, reviewing and making long-term procedural and strategic recommendations to the Preservation Program Officer regarding Branch conservation and preservation protocols. The Supervisory Conservator reports to the Preservation Program Officer and works with that supervisor and the Senior Supervisory Preservation Specialist to develop, coordinate and implement annual work plans and provide input on reformatting of textual and non-textual records to meet long-term strategic goals. The Supervisory Conservator also develops treatment-based performance standards and assists in developing other project-based standards, and conducts or participates in the examination and treatment of documents within the holdings of NPRC or regional archival facilities.
