Imaging Working Group

Engage With Our Group!

We aim to develop both a community and resources to support conservators in utilizing the growing number of imaging technologies and practices. We support communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration through meetings, community events, and projects, identify and address the imaging needs and challenges that conservators encounter in their work, and promote best conservation imaging practices by providing resources and community support.

Formed in the spring of 2020 as part of the Research and Technical Studies Group, we now have over 200 members from all specialties within conservation including but not limited to conservators, technicians, researchers, and imaging specialists.

What We Do

Annual Meeting Programming

Founding members of the IWG have planned programming at AIC's Annual Meeting since before the group formed. We have held concurrent general sessions and panels on imaging topics since Houston in 2017 . The New England meeting in 2019 featured three presentations and a panel; the Jacksonville meeting in 2023  featured six talks in a concurrent general session and many more cross-over presentations throughout the meeting.

Online Events

We have an active schedule of formal programming and monthly informal meetings. Our chair hosts an open meeting on the last Friday of every month. There are regular meetings where imaging professionals share 5-minute presentations on current projects, workarounds and/or tips that you have come up with for your imaging work.

Wiki

The Imaging Wiki  aims to establish an online platform that shares information about conservation imaging techniques and encourages users to share imaging resources, case studies, and workflows. The wiki is a dynamic resource for the community and the site’s content is a collaborative work-in-progress. You can search the wiki for specific terms or browse using the table of contents, and visit the Help Wanted page if you're interested in volunteering to add content.
