An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen in the Peak District National Park for a Conservation Officer. 

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced applicant to join our busy Cultural Heritage team. There are 109 conservation areas and almost 3000 listed buildings in the National Park set within some of the most beautiful landscapes of the UK. 

Your work will help us to protect and enhance the special buildings, structures, places and landscapes of the Peak District National Park. You will provide specialist conservation advice, support and guidance both internally and externally, and help the Directorate deliver an effective and integrated conservation advice service. 

Key aspects of the role include: 

  • Giving pre-application advice and guidance
  • Responding to planning & listed building application consultations
  • Identifying unauthorised works and advising on enforcement action
  • Giving general advice on listed buildings 

You will also contribute to the production of conservation area appraisals and reviews, carry out listed building condition surveys and update our buildings at risk register. You will also contribute to other historic environment projects as they arise. 

You will have a degree or post-graduate qualification in historic building conservation, heritage conservation or other relevant discipline. IHBC Membership is desirable. You will have specialist knowledge of traditional building architecture, techniques, materials and conservation methods. You will have a thorough knowledge and experience of conservation and planning policy, legislation and best practice guidance.  

The Authority has recently received a prestigious RTPI Award for Excellence in Planning for Heritage and Culture. We are proud to receive this recognition for our ongoing dedication to our heritage, the built environment and historic landscapes in this vibrant National Park and are looking for an enthusiastic individual to contribute to our team.
