The Corporation of the Fine Arts Museums (COFAM) is offering a two-year advanced postgraduate fellowship in the conservation of paper-based materials beginning in January of 2020.

COFAM is comprised of two museums, the de Young and the Legion of Honor.  Holdings in the museums' Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts number over 100,000 artworks.  The prints, drawings, photographs, and artists' books represent more than five hundred years of works on paper.  The collection has particular strength in modern and contemporary prints.

The Fellow will work under the supervision of the head of paper conservation and collaboratively with curators and other conservators to gain experience in all aspects of conservation encountered in a large museum setting, including activities related to treatment, exhibition, installation, loans, preventive care, documentation, and public programs.  A significant part of the Fellowship is developing and carrying out a research project.  Publication and presentation of the Fellow's research is expected.

The selected candidate will receive annual compensation of $50,000 for the first year and $52,000 for the second year, substantial funds for travel and research support, plus a full benefits package.  Candidates should be graduates of a conservation training program.  Research experience is desirable.

Candidates are asked to submit a letter of interest and resume, and to complete the online form, at their earliest convenience and no later than November 15, 2019.

Direct questions to Christine Moss, Human Resources, COFAM, cmoss@famsf.org or 415-750-7684.
