  • Conservation Officer (Part Time) 18.5 Hours a week

  • Committed to putting our customers first and providing a high-quality service, we are seeking a part-time Conservation Officer in our Planning Development Management Team.

The historic environment is central to the character and identity of Mid Sussex and is a source of local pride and plays an important part in the attractiveness of the District as a place to live, work and visit. With over 1,000 listed buildings and 36 conservation areas, together with our current Conservation Officer, you will be responsible for delivering high quality advice to Development Management on applications for listed building consent and planning permission and providing pre-application advice the public. Using your experience in this field, you will potentially work on a wide range of other projects, including input into the District Plan and other planning documents, drawing up guidance on historic buildings and conservation. A priority is the review of the extent of our conservation areas and identification of proposals for their preservation and enhancement through Conservation Area Appraisals.

You will need to be educated to degree level in Conservation or related degree and have experience of working within this field. Occasional attendance at evening meetings will be necessary. Applicants should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
