If real thieves followed this advice, there would be less conservation work to do when stolen paintings are recovered

In advance of the release of the film, “The Goldfinch”( which tells the adventures of Carel Fabritus’ famous painting after it is stolen from the Metropolitan Museum), the September issue of  Town and Country magazine (“Out & About: How to Steal a Masterpiece”, by Adam Rathe) provides  good basic advice on how paintings should be treated in the guise of a humorous guide on how to steal a painting—i.e., do not remove it from its protective frame, wrap it in cloth not acidic newspaper, stash it in a place with a consistent temperature. If real thieves followed this advice, there would be less conservation work to do when stolen paintings are recovered
