According to an article in the October 22, 2019 issue of The New York Times (“
Be All That You Can Be: Protect Artworks”, by by Ralph Blumenthal and Tom Mashberg ), the U.S. Army is forming a group of about 25 commissioned reserve officers who are museum directors, curators, archivists, conservators, and archaeologists. These new "Monuments Men" and women will help secure the cultural heritage of regions involved in conflicts by informing the U.S. military and allied forces of sites to avoid in fighting and places where they should work to stop looting. It is likely that the 35 year age limit for joining the Army Reserves will be waived for the experts. It will be interesting to see how many of those tapped for service are conservators. #conservationinthenews
