Could the appearance of such an article in the Style Section rather than the Science Section mark a growing general interest in the technical aspects of the creation of works of art?

In the Sunday February 7, 2021, issue of The New York Times, an article by Evan Nicole Brown about the YInMn blue pigment developed at Oregon State University in 2009 appeared in the Style Section (“An Accidental Cocktail Yielded a New Blue”). While the article does note that the non-toxic and extremely stable color is now available for commercial use, it focuses on the chemistry and development of the color and quotes Narayan Khandkar, Director of the Straus Center for Conservation and Technical Studies of the Harvard Art Museums, who mentions that samples of the pigment have been added to the Straus’ Forbes Pigment Collection. Could the appearance of such an article in the Style Section rather than the Science Section mark a growing general interest in the technical aspects of the creation of works of art?
