  • 1.  Looking for Recommendations - Plexi glass cleaner

    Posted 03-05-2021 10:59

Looking for recommendations for Plexi glass cleaners.  We need to place an order and in the past we've bought this brand

    https://www.amazon.com/Sumner-Laboratories-23304-Plastic-Cleaner/dp/B00144ASC6/ref=lp_9355451011_1_1?s=specialty-aps

We aren't sure who we ordered from in the past but Amazon is the only vendor we could currently find and $139 for 12 cans struck me as a little excessive.  Does anyone know of another vendor for this product? We are also open to suggestions for other brands that would meet our needs but not break the bank.

Thanks in advance.  Have a great weekend and stay safe.

    Hi Katherine,
I know some museums tend to like Brillianize, which is available from Amazon in various quantities. Novus cleaner also seems to be a top choice. Just keep in mind that all acrylic cleaners have polishing agents in them that can damage glazing with anti-reflective coatings, so they need to be used judiciously. If looking for a cleaner that can be used on all types of acrylic, a solution of 30% isopropyl alcohol in distilled water is safe and effective (and less expensive). I can send you tips on cleaning if you like by emailing me directly at: ylarochette@tru-vue.com

    Best,
    Yadin

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I had heard of Novus before but had never seen it for sale in bulk before so that maybe the way to go instead of our old brand.  Thanks for the link.  I will also talk to our staff about perhaps just switching to distilled water which would be the most cost effective and best of the environment.

    Hi Katherine,
We have used Tap Plastics plexi cleaner.  The nice thing is they also have polishes that have tiers that can help get out scratches (kind of like sand paper- coarser to finer grains).

I hope you find this helpful.
