Biography

Hilda Abreu Utermohlen is a retired paintings conservator and artist. She worked in private practice in the Dominican Republic, with more than 35 years until of experience in the treatment of paintings and in preventive conservation of collections. She is currently living in Houston, Texas, where she has returned to her passion as a painter. Hilda Abreu Utermohlen received her MSc in paintings conservation from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation, in the U.S. Her undergraduate education in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, consists of a BS in Chemistry and a Diploma in Studio Art. As a conservator she has experience in teaching and training; cocreated the first graduate program in Museum Studies in the Caribbean region, for the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Dominican Republic; published professional articles, ranging from peer-reviewed journals to publications for the general public, and as guest speaker on conservations issues. Hilda Abreu Utermohlen also served as Member of the Executive Board of ICOM. She is currently a Board Member of APOYOnline. Hilda Abreu Utermohlen is a Fellow member of AIC and IIC.
